I thought this was pretty neat. My sis Natalie (the lovely one holding the baby boy) decided to write a blog about me. She is a wonderful woman of God, wife and mother who I met at church in West Palm Beach where she and her husband are involved in ministry. I miss her and her family so dearly. If you would like to be encouraged and read her uplifting blog posts, you can read them by clicking here. I was blessed by this so I decided I would share with you all what she so thoughtfully wrote concerning the call I have to the missions field. Enjoy! And once again…thanks a bunch Natalie : )
I’ve met people who want to be “used” by God. But a lot of the time there are qualifiers attached to their willingness. “I’l go anywhere but…” or “I’ll do anything except…” What a joy it is to meet those who just say, “yes” with reckless abandon and sincere and total trust. In meeting Amarja, I encountered someone who joyfully said, “yes“.
A little over 3 months ago, she was a senior in college, set to graduate, and asking the question every student in her shoes has no doubt asked- What next? God, where do you want me? What am I going to do?
She was a part of a small group I belonged to at church. The four of us were sitting down to lunch at a restaurant when she told us.
“I think God may be calling me to Cambodia, to help rescue little girls from sex trafficking.”
If felt like it came out of nowhere. She was set to make a drastic, life altering choice and she told us in between small talk and drink refills. Only Amarja! She is one passionate, deliberate and “all or nothing” kind of girl. We support her because we believe in her and in what God is calling her to. Here’s what she’s doing in her own words.
LOCATION: current: Redlands, CA on the way to: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
NAME: Amarja A. Mitsutomi
MINISTRY AFFILIATION: Adventures in Missions
THE MISSION: To bring the Gospel to and make disciples of unreached people groups. We will do this by loving and empowering victims of the sex trade to live in freedom by encouraging them and teaching them how, to make a living outside of prostitution.
WHY IT MATTERS: There is a HUGE need and many of these women are invisible. Their stories are not being told and if they are, it is easy to forget about “them” and move on with our lives. I believe scripture tells us to take action. We serve a just God so we must fight for justice and for the freedom of the oppressed. Isaiah 61:1 is my anthem all the way!
